PhD and postdoctoral openings

Hongguang Liu’s Quantum Gravity Lab at Westlake University invites applications for one PhD position and one postdoctoral position in 2026.

We welcome candidates interested in non-perturbative quantum gravity, quantum field theory and renormalization, general relativity and modified gravity, black holes and cosmology, or computational methods for fundamental physics.

PHD STUDENT 1 position

Doctoral research

Candidates with a strong background in physics or mathematics and an interest in theoretical research are welcome to apply.

Application materials

Please send a CV, academic transcript, and a brief description of your research interests. For formal admission procedures and requirements, see Westlake University graduate admissions ↗.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER 1 position

Postdoctoral research

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in physics, mathematics, or a related discipline, with research interests connected to the group.

Application materials

Please send a CV, publication list, and research statement describing your previous work and the research you would like to pursue with us.

How to apply

Send enquiries and application materials to liuhongguang@westlake.edu.cn (Hongguang Liu).

Please use “2026 PhD application – Your name” or “2026 Postdoctoral application – Your name” as the email subject.

Graduate study

Our research spans quantum gravity, non-perturbative quantum field theory, black holes and cosmology, and computational methods. Prospective PhD students can find application procedures and requirements on the Westlake University graduate admissions website.

Research visits and collaboration

To discuss research visits, collaborations, or postdoctoral opportunities, please contact Hongguang Liu with a brief description of your background and interests.
